Well. Believe it or not, but I never made these x-backed pinafores before, and now I made three in less than a week, and two of them are custom orders for customers that requested it at the same time, and did not have any connections to eachother. This one is heading for Italy. It has a solid red cotton fabric and sky blue seam binding. And, two little pockets on the frontside with Pippi Longstocking. At first I was about to insist on not using solid red, but red and white polkadot fabric. But now when it is finished I am so pleased I didn't. And, we're not even halfway through January, but I am sure that this is one item that will be on my "Top10 of 2010". Isn't it just gorgeous!?
And to match the outfit a pair of bloomers with a red polkadot ruffle. I have ALMOST declared my shop to be "ruffle-free", since most of the US based shops are filled with ruffles. But, you should always have at least one exception to confirm a rule. And here is at least one. These are soooo cute! I thought that my daughter would refuse to let me send these away, but when I asked her to try them on (to confirm the size) she just said, "These are R:s pants". And kept on repeating it. And then I remember, that R really had a pair of jeans shorts with ruffles that actually resemles these. She's got quite a memory that little girl.
I made the edge of the ruffle with roll hem. I usually don't use this for woven fabrics, but again, you always need an exception.
